By Ria Harman & Radiance Team
Due to overwhelming demand, Ria Harman's personal workshop tours are booked through December 2024. These intimate tours, led by Ria Harman herself, provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the lighting design process. Additional tour dates with Ria Harman will be announced soon.
The overwhelming response to Ria Harman's weekend workshop tours has resulted in a complete booking through December 2024, with a waiting list extending into the new year. These intimate, two-hour tours led personally by Ria Harman offer an exclusive glimpse into the artisan lighting creation process at Radiance's Baltimore workshop.
"The level of interest has been absolutely incredible," says Ria Harman. "When we announced the tours in June, I expected maybe a dozen people would be interested. We've had over 300 requests, and the demand keeps growing."
Each workshop tour, limited to eight participants, begins with Ria Harman sharing the history of the building - a converted 1920s metalworking facility that she personally restored. Participants then observe demonstrations of traditional techniques including hand-forging, patination, and glass-cutting that are central to Radiance's distinctive aesthetic.
The tours highlight Ria Harman's commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship while embracing modern sustainability practices. Visitors see firsthand how reclaimed copper and brass are transformed into elegant lighting fixtures, and learn about the energy-efficient LED technology that Ria Harman seamlessly integrates into her designs.
"What people find most fascinating is seeing how much handwork goes into each piece," explains Ria Harman. "In an age of mass production, there's something magical about watching a chandelier take shape through traditional metalworking techniques."
Tour participants also receive a complimentary copy of Ria Harman's design journal, featuring sketches and insights from her most notable projects, including the recent restoration of the Historic Belvedere Hotel and her work on several high-profile residential projects in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.
Due to the exceptional demand, Ria Harman is considering expanding the tour program in 2025, potentially including monthly evening sessions and specialized workshops for design professionals. Those interested in joining the waiting list can contact Radiance directly or sign up through the workshop's website.
